Positively Impacting the Communities we Serve.

Since 1979, First Bank and Trust Company has been helping the communities it serves by contributing to several non-profit organizations and other charitable groups that actively support education and youth-centered initiatives, advance agriculture, and address food insecurity in our local communities. In addition, First Bank and Trust Company's employees are active participants and volunteers in their local communities across Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.

Advancing Agriculture

Many of the communities we serve are towns built on the agricultural industry, including Lebanon, Virginia, where the bank was founded in 1979. From the day our first branch opened its doors, our commitment to farmers has been clear. Not only has agriculture been a key focus of our business operations, but we have also worked hard to keep the agriculture industry thriving in rural communities, like the ones surrounding Lebanon, Virginia.

Through educational and advocacy efforts, our team has contributed to:

  • Local and State FFA Chapters and Fair Associations throughout the bank’s footprint
  • Beef Ministry (pictured)
  • Rockingham County 4-H Council
  • West Virginia Poultry
  • Montgomery Co. 4-H Livestock Club

Numerous First Bank and Trust Company employees and executives have served or are actively serving organizations like: The Virginia Agribusiness Council, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Virginia Fairs Board, North Carolina Pork Council and the Tennessee Resource Conservation & Development.

Our agricultural lending specialists, many of whom are farmers themselves, continue to advocate on behalf of multi-generational farming operations which are instrumental to the continuing success of American agriculture.

Addressing Food Insecurity

First Bank and Trust Company strives to provide monetary and volunteer support to non-profits and other organizations that directly address challenges in our communities related to food insecurity and other basic needs, such as housing and essential supplies.

Through monetary donations, local drives, and volunteer support, our team has proudly contributed to Feeding Southwest Virginia, where food insecurity rates are among the highest in the state. Read more here.

Additionally, in 2023, the Young Bankers Management team also volunteered at the Blue Ridge Food Bank in Verona, Virginia and Feeding SWVA in Salem, Virginia. The Bank and the community also came together for a Legal Food Frenzy, raising $1,756 in donations and collecting 573 pounds of food for the cause.

Promoting Educational Opportunities

First Bank and Trust Company supports educational, civic, and other organizations promoting education and programs for youth in the communities we serve. We will support facilities and developments that positively impact youth or youth programs and education-related opportunities that encompass all levels of education, including K-12, collegiate, postgraduate, professional certification, and technical and vocational training.

From local 'Pack The Bus' bank events to collect school supplies to participating in statewide programs such as the Virginia Banker's Association Virginia Reads One Book and Teach Kids to save programs to Tennessee Ag Literacy Week, our bankers are always looking for ways to get involved in programs that promote education in our local communities.
